opec & oil shocks; the pathology of opec's behavior in global oil market
Authors
abstract
after second world war, demand for oil increased and in 1970s reached to its maximum growth. and naturally, providing this level of demand depended on much more import from opec, especially from middle eastern members. contemporaneous, in the early 1970s, some opec governments stopped granting new concessions and starting to claim equity participation in the existing concessions, with a few of them opting for full nationalization. these two processes led to the introduction of new powerful actor to global oil market. but, as the further events showed, opec's dominance had a short life and because of some reasons, chiefly as a result of opec's behavior after second oil shock (1979), this period shortly finished. in the mid 1980s, it's pronounced that the opec's formal prices catch to trouble.

Time-Varying Transmission Mechanism of Oil Shocks in the Global Crude oil Market: A TVP-VAR Approach
In this paper, we have utilized a time-varying parameter vector autoregressive model in order to examine the structural changes in the transmission mechanisms of oil price shocks in the global crude oil market over the period of 1985-2016. In this setting, the contemporaneous response of real oil price and crude oil production to flow oil supply shock, flow oil demand shock, and speculative dem...

The results show th...

full textReaction of Stock Market Index to Oil Price Shocks
T his study examines how oil price shocks interact with the stock market index within a nonlinear autoregressive distributed lag model in Iran. Based on quarterly data for the period from 1991 to 2017, the findings revealed statistically significant evidence of short-run and long-run asymmetric behavior of stock market index in response to the positive a...

full textAre Markups in Oil Market Caused by Exhaustibility or OPEC Market Power? An Empirical Test Abstract
According to “Hotelling rule” price of an “exhaustible resource” exceeds its marginal cost of production in perfect competition equilibrium by amount equal to the opportunity cost of depleting the resource now rather than next periods. This cost is called “scarcity rent”. Oil price exceeds its marginal extraction costs significantly. This can be attributed two different sources: effect of scarc...
